Miss Chicken Visits Terelj

Miss Chicken enjoying the view on the
drive back to UB Saturday afternoon

Greg, Miss Chicken and I went to Terelj this weekend. It was a wonderfully relaxing opportunity for us to reconnect after
Greg was gone traveling. At least most of it was relaxing. Greg had me try my hand at driving the four wheel drive outside of the city, during an approaching storm... for the first time.

For the first time as well, I was in the driver's seat and able to see the numerous 'near misses' as cars waited until the most dangerous possible moment to hurl themselves into th
e left passing lane as oncoming traffic approached at speeds unadvisable under the best conditions. By the time we passed the abandoned for the night guard station at the entrance to Terelj National Park, my nerves were shot. I had just negotiated the steep, potholed dirt track strewn with the detritius of broken down vehicles that takes one down the side of an enormous mountain into the park. Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating a little bit (a lot) but it seemed like I was going to plunge us off the side of the road to certain death at any moment. Shortly after reaching the bottom, Greg calmly offered to drive. I kept up a brave face and replied that I was okay, and I'd keep going. When he offered to take over driving again within sixty seconds, I figured-out he wasn't just being nice. I gladly gave over control of the car
and settled back into my co-pilot comfort zone. Yes, I will pull the 'chick' card any time I deem necessary!

We made it to Ayanchin Lodge without further delay and settled into our room. It was great; only one other guest in the lodge during dinner. We slept-in Saturday morning until 9:00, watching the colors change on the mountains behind the Lodge as the sun made it's appearance. Beautiful sunrise that turned into an overcast, cold day for our drive back to UB.

The current bridge is wooden slats...I try to forget this point!
